American Psycho
Patrick Bateman är en 27-årig finansman. Han
jobbar på en investmentbank med
företagstransaktioner, Mergers &
Acquisitions som det kallas på Wall Street.
I denna stundtals våldsamma film får man
dock ganska snart reda på att det som
Patrick egentligen sysslar med på dagarna är
Murders & Executions! Som när han upptäcker
att en kollega på Pierce & Pierce har
flashigare visitkort än han. Psykopaten
Bateman bestämmer sig då för att göra sig av
med Paul Allan, vars ”business card” både
var utsökt äggskalsvitt och dessutom hade
vattenstämpel. Men det är inte det sista
vansinnesdådet utfört av denna amerikanska
psykopat. Filmen är ibland lite väl brutal,
och driver en hel del med yuppie-myten.

I live
in the American Gardens Building on W. 81st
Street on the 11th floor. My name is Patrick
Bateman. I'm 27 years old. I believe in
taking care of myself and a balanced diet
and rigorous exercise routine. In the
morning, if my face is a little puffy, I'll
put on an ice pack while doing stomach
crunches. I can do a 1000 now.
After I
remove the ice pack I use a deep pore
cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water
activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond
body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating
gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial
mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I
prepare the rest of my routine. I always use
an after shave lotion with little or no
alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out
and makes you look older. Then moisturizer,
then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a
final moisturizing protective lotion.

"Price pulls a card from an inside coat
pocket and holds it up for their inspection:

speechless.
The sound in the room dies down and all we
hear is a faint
heartbeat as Bateman stares at the
magnificent card.
BATEMAN (V.O.)
Look at that subtle off-white coloring. The
tasteful thickness
of it. Oh my God, it even has a watermark...
His hand shaking, Bateman lifts up the card
and stares at it
until it fills the screen.
He lets it fall. The SOUND RETURNS TO
NORMAL."

Now, John, you've to wear clothes in
proportion to your physique. There are
definite do and don'ts, good buddy of
wearing a bold striped shirt. A bold stripe
shirt calls for solid colored or discreetly
patterned suits and ties. [pause]
Yes, always tip the stylist 15%. Listen,
John, I've gotta go, T. Boone Pickens just
walked in. [laughs] Just joking. No,
don't tip the owner of the salon. Okay John?
